Local MLA's Vow To Keep The North On The Radar

Three weeks after the 41st General Election, the future of government in BC has been revealed: the BC Green party formed a coalition with the BC New Democrats.
“I fully expect that we will find ourselves in opposition. I’m still grappling with the mechanism for delivering for Northern British Columbia from the opposition benches,” says MLA-Elect for Prince George-Valemount, Shirley Bond. “As I’ve thought about over the past, very long, three weeks, it won’t change the passion for where I live.”
She says her years in government will help her in whatever capacity she finds herself. This is only MLA-Elect Mike Morris’ second term and he says opposition will be a steep learning curve. But he is especially concerned about what the coalition government will mean for the resource sector.
“It’s going to affect the resource sector to a significant degree,” he says. “They’re talking about perhaps shutting down Site C, they’re talking about Kinder Morgan, they’re talking about LNG, they’re talking about increased carbon taxes. All those have an effect on the bottom line for industry.”
Both Bond and Morris say they will be loud in Victoria in fighting for this region.
