Springwood Elementary is one step closer to reopening. A Principal has been hired, one with over a decade of experience working in School District 57.
Kelly Johansen has assumed the new role. The past Principal of Heather Park Elementary is excited to start a new chapter with Springwood. “What I am most excited for–and really quite honoured to have this roll– is to create something new from the the ground up. It’s an opportunity to get something right from the get-go, and just to be apart of that alongside with all the staff and the community of Springwood.”
The hiring of staff at Springwood is almost complete. Some students and their parents had the opportunity to meet many of the teachers at last night’s Kindergarten Orientation (hosted at Kelly Road). A family BBQ is also being held on June 21st at Springwood so students in all grades can meet the teachers and staff.
Johansen says registration has been great. “We are currently at 170 students. It just so happens that every day we seem to find out a new student is coming to the school. With working in the Hart for the last few years, I find it’s safe to assume that new registrations are also going to walk in the school come late August, early September as well. So I anticipate the enrollment will go up.”
