On Thursday, June 29th, campfires will be prohibited in parts of the Cariboo Fire Centre’s region in an effort to prevent human-caused wildfires.
Campfires will be banned in the Cariboo-Chilcotin Forest District ; west of the Fraser River. They will also be prohibited in Itcha Ilgachuz Provincial Park.
Tiki torches and chimineas will also be banned in these areas, starting at noon on the 29th.
The Cariboo Fire Centre is experiencing dry conditions and elevated fire danger ratings. The fire danger ratings are “high” to “extreme” in the far Northeast corner of the fire centre.
Anyone found not following the ban may be issued a ticket.
