The latest resident of the Northern Lights Wildlife Society is said to be doing well.
The moose calf was found by a group of students from Takla’s community school recently. He was abandoned by his mother. Over the next 24 hours, an effort was made to return the weak calf to his mother. However the effort was unsuccessful.
So the calf was turned over to the wildlife society where he will be raised and eventually returned to the wild.
In the process, an elder named the animal Jeyo, which is the Carrier term for Bull Moose.
Although the correct steps were taken in this case, Mounties are reminding the public that often animals may appear to be abandoned in the wild, when in reality, their mother is nearby. They suggest you should resist temptation to step in and save an abandoned animal unless you are sure its parent are not nearby.
