Prince George is still on track for record-breaking temperatures. We are expecting to crack the 30°C mark today and tomorrow.
“A ridge of High pressure is well established in the southern parts of BC. Prince George is on the cusp of that ridge,” says Cindy Yu, a Meteorologist with Environment Canada. “For July 6th, our daily record is sitting at 30.6° and that was set in 1920.”
Things are expected to cool down a bit over the weekend.”We are expecting a trough of Low pressure to move in late Friday into Saturday. With that, we are expecting a chance of showers late tomorrow,” says Yu. “Unfortunately, with the trough of Low pressure we expecting a relatively unstable air mass to move in. We are expecting a risk of thunderstorms late tomorrow afternoon as well. Our forecast temperature for tomorrow is around 30°, but depending on if we get showers or not we will have to wait and see if we reach it.”
Yu says it is not unusual for us to get a hot stretch of weather. “For this year we haven’t had a 30° day yet. June 7th was our hottest day so far this year where our afternoon temperature reached 29°.”
