There is now a widespread evacuation alert in place in the south Cariboo, where the Gustafsen wildfire has grown to more than 1,200 hectares. In the last 24 hours, the fire has more than doubled its size.
Officials have ordered an evacuation alert for all properties in the 108 Mile and 105 Mile areas west of Highway 97 and all properties in the vicinity of Lily Pad Lake that were not included in the previous Evacuation Orders. An Emergency reception area has been set up in the 100 Mile House Curling rink.
Early Friday morning an Evacuation Order was put in place for 33 properties in the Tatton Station Road area west of 105 Mile House.
Meantime the Wildfire Service is pouring more resources into the fire. It says 120 firefighters as well as a 25-person Incident Management Team and support staff, 4 helicopters, airtankers, and 15 pieces of heavy equipment will be on site today.
