A recent research exercise over the last month, conducted by Inverite saw three underage teenagers have the opportunity to purchase vaping products containing nicotine, online across the country.
In Prince George, there’s a city bylaw that restricts vaping in public spaces and where there would be large gatherings or children around.
Teens in Toronto, Edmonton and Winnipeg between the ages of 14 and 17 purchased vaping products containing nicotine from 11 retailer contacted
In Edmonton, four packages were sold and delivered to a 17 year old girl, even after identification showing her age and a mismatch between the address on the driver’s license and the package delivery.
In Toronto, three out of four such packages were delivered to a 14 year old boy participating in this research exercise.
There is legislation currently before Parliament, Bill S-5, that would focus around sales of vaping products and consequences for retailers who do sell to underage children.
