The province held a media conference in Prince George today to update the public on the current conditions of the province after declaring a state of emergency province wide on Friday.
Forests Minister John Rustad was asked whether fires in the Cariboo region are close to being under control.
“The short answer – is no.” said Rustad.
He adds that there’s heavy smoke and the conditions aren’t helping firefighters fight the blazes.
Rustad did say that Prince George has opened up a evacuation centre at the College of New Caledonia, which is accepting evacuees from 103 Mile House, 108 Mile House and 150 Mile House.
The City of Prince George has launched its Emergency Operations Centre to accommodate those evacuees.
City staff say evacuees when they arrive, should check in and register, to gain access to services.
Meanwhile, Williams Lake and Quesnel are on an evacuation alerts, but Rustad adds that at this point there is no need to go further than that.
