Prince George RCMP say they have received reports of theft to vehicles and personal items, belonging to evacuees.
“Anywhere there’s vulnerable persons, there is going to be people trying to take advantage of those persons….we still need them to take care of their possessions and lock them up.” said Cpl. Craig Douglass with Prince George RCMP.
Some evacuees who are camped out at the College of New Caledonia say some individuals did some rummaging through trucks on Sunday night, and for Evacuee Brenda Leonew she’s just hoping it doesn’t become an everyday thing.
“Most people are good, but we’re evacuated and just be respectful of our little bit of stuff we do have with us, because we might not have a home to go to.” said Leonew.
Douglass says he’s not really surprised.
“I’ve heard reports, I believe they have been reported to us, and I’ve heard of situations, that if they haven’t been, then they should be reported to us.”
Prince George RCMP say they will be stepping up controls in lieu of the thousands of people possibly coming to Prince George from fire torn areas.
