There is no signs of the Cariboo wildfires letting up. In fact the situation may be getting worse. The entire city of Williams Lake was issued an evacuation alert Monday night.
Mayor Walt Cobb said, “We want to ensure that residents have sufficient time to be prepared in case the weather takes a turn for the worse.”
A forecast suggest winds could pick up Wednesday during unsettled weather conditions. The winds could push the flames into the city of more than 10,000.
“We don’t want to cause alarm; however, we want residents to know what kind of fire behaviour is expected on Wednesday,” stated Cariboo Regional District Chair Al Richmond.
Well over 200 fires are continuing to burn across British Columbia’s interior. Officials estimate about 14 thousand people have been forced to leave their homes.
