49 cats and 32 dogs are being moved out of Kinsman Hall and into Peden Hill Elementary. Evacuated pets are not allowed at the evacuation centre at CNC, and the location where pets were being house has reached maximum capacity.
Once the animals are settled at Peden Hill, the Humane Society will accept about 30 to 50 more pets.
The Society is looking after the animals, but are in need of various items.
“We have a lot of people that are donating and we have a lot of excess of stuff that we don’t actually need,” says Angela McLaren, the Founder & Executive Director of the Prince George Humane Society. “So what we are asking people is before they want to purchase any items, just to give us a call. Just because we can give them an idea of our desperate needs. One of the things we need right now are dog and cat kennels. Anything from medium size to large size is what we need.”
Those looking to volunteer are also asked to contact the Humane Society.
“We have people that are obviously cat companions; changing litter boxes, feeding the animals, just giving them some extra cuddles,” says McLaren. “We need dog walkers as well. What we are encouraging people is to not come down where we are. We just got an influx of volunteers. Obviously we want to give as much time as we can to the animals. So we are just asking people to be patient with us and to phone the Humane Society cell.”
