Hundreds of people lined up at 8 a.m. at the Volunteer Centre. Only a couple hours in, over 1,000 people registered to help evacuees in the community.
The City of Prince George opened the centre on the second floor of the Civic Centre as a way to manage and direct support.
“Having this partnership between the City and Volunteer Prince George I think is enabling all of this support and this feeling that people have of wanting to help, it’s giving it some structure,” says Rob van Adrichem, the Director of External Relations for the City of Prince George. “I don’t know what the right word is. Overwhelming, heartwarming, exciting, inspiring. It’s incredible to see the response from people in the community. It’s one of those days — there’s a lot of them, thankfully — but it’s definitely one of those days when you feel really proud to be from Prince George.”
The Centre will be open [for the time being] 7 days a week from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
