Motorists across the country are showing support for evacuees. ‘BC Strong’ decals are being proudly displayed on vehicles.
A local woman, Becky Dochstader, designed the stickers. “My friend Raj said he wanted to do a BC Strong decal. So I was thinking about ‘what kind of represents BC?’, and for me at least I am a big geography buff. So the first thing was the BC outline. The heart I thought was very symbolic of everyone coming together and showing their love and their care for others during a time like this. I was kind of on the fence about adding colour…but the yellow to red gradient is symbolic of the wildfires.”
A minimum 5 dollar donation is recommended for the stickers, and all proceeds go towards the British Columbia and Yukon division of the Canadian Red Cross.
Signtek Industry is donating the materials and time to print the stickers. The decals are being sold at all four Save-On-Foods locations, Active Body Nutrition, Siding Specialist, Speedy Auto Glass and online.
“It’s way bigger than we expected it would be,” says Luc Michaud, the Co-Owner of Signtek Industries. “We thought we were going to donate a couple hundred decals. We are over 5,000 printed and almost $20,000 raised in less than 2 weeks. It’s awesome, the people in the community. We have also got orders from people in the United States, Toronto, lots of orders from Alberta on their website. It’s not just people in PG. Lots of people everywhere supporting the people in BC.”
