École Duchess Park Secondary student, Ariadne Douglas, is the winner of a prestigious summer scholarship through the Vimy Foundation. Douglas is one of 16 students from Canada, the UK and France who won the Beaverbrook Vimy Prize.
She will be studying the interwoven history of Canada, Great Britain and France during the First and Second World Wars. From August 7th-21st, Douglas will be traveling to sites and monuments in Belgium, Normandy, and Vimy. She will also attend lecutres at Oxford.
“I am very thankful for this opportunity, it was wonderful,” says Douglas. “When I first heard about it I was just going to school and they said ‘you got it’, and it was amazing.”
The Vimy Foundation awards the scholarship on the basis of essay submissions, reference letters, and motivation letters. Douglas wrote her motivation letter on her great uncle who fought at Vimy Ridge.
Douglas is the first Prince George resident to receive the Beaverbrook Vimy Prize.
