Williams Lake residents, forced to leave their homes by wildfires earlier this month, are finally being allowed to return to their homes. Mayor Walt Cobb has rescinded the evacuation order for the community. However Cobb warns the air quality is poor in the region and the area will remain under an evacuation alert.
The areas that have been changed from an evacuation order to an evacuation alert include:
The City of Williams Lake;
150 Mile House;
Pine Valley; and
Evacuation orders remain in place for the following areas:
areas north and south of Mountain House Road, including Wildwood;
the Spokin Lake area;
areas along Soda Creek Road and Frizzi Road;
Soda Creek First Nation; and
areas in the Chilcotin.
Evacuees are being warned that services will be limited in the city. Anyone who chooses to return to the area, should have food and water supplies to last them at least five days.
