Wildfires have forced the evacuation of Clinton and the closure of Highway 97.
The BC Wildfire Service says strong gusty winds sent embers across containment lines today. The embers also floated across the Bonaparte river, allowing the fire to jump the river. Now the fire has begun to move up slope towards the community of Clinton.
Evacuated residents are being told to travel to Kamloops and register at the Evacuation Centre.
Highway 97 is closed to southbound traffic at 70 Mile House and closed to northbound traffic at Loon Lake Road. The highway is open in both directions from Clinton to allow residents to escape to safety.
