On May 14th, what seemed like the whole city gathered at Masich Place Stadium to help raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. Prince George celebrated it’s 25th annual Relay for Life this year, and once again has raised more money than any other team across the country. 127 teams and over one thousand people participated in the only 24 hour relay in the country, and it’s likely that it will have raised over $580,000 by the end of the month.
Since Masich Place Stadium is under renovation, next year’s Relay will look a little bit different. The 24 hour format will stay the same, but organizers will be taking the change of venue in stride and add some new elements that will freshen up the event.
This event holds a special place in the hearts of locals. It provides a safe and supportive space for those who have lost loved ones, or are currently battling the disease. Others use this fundraiser to celebrate conquering cancer, and provide others with motivation to do the same. As the relay moves into its next quarter century, official believe the best is yet to come. Donations will be accepted until the end of August.
