RCMP are looking for volunteers to help with bike registration. Police partnered with ‘Project 529’ last year. Bikes are registered and tracked through the Garage 529 app.
Over 1,400 bikes are now registered in Prince George. The program has taken off, and about a dozen volunteers are needed at various locations. The 3 -4 hour shifts are on evenings and weekends.
“We are basically recording information for bike owners for them so that they have that information in case their bikes are stolen, and also as a preventative measure,” says Corporal Craig Douglass. “It’s been recorded and thieves are starting to get to know that. So we have had bikes that have been recovered and returned to owners because of this program. Also, the biking community when a bike is stolen is able to; anybody with this app, is able to see those bikes and start looking for those bikes as well.”
Those willing to help can either contact the RCMP detachment at (250) 561-3300, or stop by in person.
