Prince George RCMP’s Traffic Services is reminding all drivers to be extra careful in school zones when school returns to session next week.
When school returns on September 5th and 6th, drivers will have to low down to 30 kilometres per hour from 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.
Police say 30km/hr is the speed limit that is used because it allows travellers to brake quicker, the survival rate of pedestrians hit at only 30km/hr is much higher, compared to 50km/hr.
There are also more pedestrians and the age of pedestrians is what RCMP also consider.
RCMP are expected to be conducting patrols to make sure drivers are following the rules of the road.
