Local area MLA’s Mike Morris and Shirley Bond weren’t ones to mince words after finding out that MLA for Abbotsford-South Darryl Plecas abandoned his seat with the Liberal caucus to accept the position of Speaker of the House from the NDP/Green Government.
Morris calls today a bitter-sweet one.
“We’re extremely disappointed with Darryl Plecas leaving our ranks this morning.” said Morris.
“It’s very disappointing particularly after he assured us that he wouldn’t be doing that.”
As for Bond she was stunned by the announcement as well.
“The way you work with your colleagues and the respect you develop for each other is an important part of doing the job.” said Bond.
“Sadly, that wasn’t the case this morning.”
Meantime, the BC NDP also introduced the throne speech as Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon delivered it on Friday.
The speech outlined the need for starting a government to government partnership with indigenous peoples, making life more affordable and improving services like health care and ICBC rates.
The NDP have also committed to building new hospitals and urgent care centres in the province.
Premier John Horgan met with reporters after the legislature was dismissed for the day reiterating his commitment to investing in the resource sector.
