In late August, the City received approval from the Inspector of Municipalities to borrow $50 million dollars to replace Fire Hall #1 ($15 million) and the Four Seasons Leisure Pool ($35 million). It was the final piece that needed to fall into place for the City to move ahead with a referendum. And, last night, Council did just that. It has approved a schedule of advanced polls leading up to the October 28th vote.
Advancing voting options are:
*Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at City Hall and UNBC
*Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the College of New Caledonia
*Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at City
The polls will be open on those three days from 8 a.m. to 8 .m.
In addition, mail in ballots kill be available on or about September 22, 2017 and special mobile voting will take place at select health care and community living facilities.
Council had already approved October 28, 2017 at the general voting day for the referendum. The locations of the polls on that day are:
*John McInnis Centre
*DP Todd Secondary
*Kelly Road Secondary
*Ron Brent Elementary
Again, polling stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The questions on the ballot will be as follows:
*Are you in favour of the City of Prince George adopting “Four Seasons Leisure Pool Replacement Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 8888, 2017 which will authorize Council to borrow a sum not exceeding thirty five million dollars ($35,000,000), repayable over a period of no more than twenty (20) years, for the development and construction of a new pool building to replace the Four Seasons Pool?
*Are you in favour of the City of Prince George adopting “Fire Hall #1 Replacement Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 8889, 2017 which will authorize Council to borrow a sum not exceeding fifteen five million dollars ($15,000,000), repayable over a period of no more than twenty (20) years, for the development and construction of a new fire hall to replace the Fire Hall #1?
An extensive education campaign was also approved by Council, which will be launched as early as this weekend, with an open house at the current and proposed locations of Fire Hall #1.
On Saturday, September 16, from 9 .m. to noon, people can visit the current location at 7th and Dominion, and another open house will be conducted at the proposed site of the fire hall on Massey Drive (next to the Northern BC YMCA) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A similar open house will be held at the current location of the Four Seasons Leisure Pool at 775 Dominion Street on October 18, 2017 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The City will also host two digital town hall meetings, on September 19, 2017, looking at the fire hall replacement project, and September 20, 2017, looking at the pool replacement project.
