Mounties aren’t only targeting cell phone users during this months distracted driving campaign, a tweet released earlier this week shows a driver eating with a caption that says “Did you know you can’t eat a bowl of soup while driving? Drive without due care= $368 Fine + 6 points “. RCMP Constable Melissa Wutke says the picture is meant to draw attention to the fact that distracted driving is not just using your cell phone. She says drivers can be distracted by eating something that takes both hands off the wheel and attention off the road.
Put your cell phone and snacks away and concentrate on the road. Its a message not always heeded by drivers in the city, Driving For Life Instructor and CEO Chris Schulz says he’s seen everything from drivers reading books to playing the guitar. Schulz recommends putting your cellphone in the glove compartment and staying focused on whats on the road 12 to 15 seconds ahead when behind the wheel – tips that could help keep you safe down the road.
