A local young woman is in the running for the coveted “Miss Universe Canada” title. Emmersun Taylor-Ouellet is hoping to become the first Prince George resident to wear the crown.
The 19-year-old is one of 67 delegates across Canada to make it past the first round of cuts in the 2017 national beauty pageant.
Taylor-Ouellet says she would use the title as a platform to raise awareness about an important cause, that hits close to home. Organ donation. “My mother does suffer from liver disease and she is in dire need of a transplant. So to me it’s important to bring awareness about that [organ donation].”
Becoming Miss Universe Canada isn’t her only dream. The CNC student plans to be a Registered Nurse. “The reason I want to be a nurse is because the greatest privilege in life is being able to help people when they are unable to help themselves.”
Prince George has the opportunity to show it wants a local representing Canada on the stage. This year, a “People’s Choice Award” is being held online. Whoever wins will be fast-tracked to the top 20.
You can vote for Taylor-Ouellet at http://missuniversecanada.ca/vote-2017/ [every 6 hours up, to 4 times a day].
The preliminary competition will be held on Thursday, October 5th, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
