James David Junior Charlie of Nak’azdli will spend a minimum 25 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of the first degree murder of Vanderhoof’s Fribjon Bjornson in January of 2012.
Bjornson was killed in a home on the Nak’azdli reserve, just south of Fort St. James. The first degree murder conviction means Charlie won’t be eligible for parole for 25 years.
Charlie also admitted to severing Bjornson’s head after he was dead. He was sentenced to three years on the charge of causing an indignity to a human body. The sentence will be served concurrently to his life sentence.
The jury handed down its verdict Thursday at Supreme Court in Prince George.
