Heavy smoke from forest fires in the Cariboo, moved into the Prince George area just after 7:00pm this evening. The smoke is so heavy, it's resulted in an overload of calls into emergency lines. Assistant Fire Chief Doug Wilkins says forestry officials have been monitoring the situation from the air and say there are no signs of fires near Prince George. He asking people to refrain from calling to report the smell of smoke. However if you spot a fire, you should call 911 immediately. Wilkins says officials are making the request to ensure dispatchers are free to field phone calls for an actual fire if it was to break out in the city. It's not known how long the smoke will stick around. An air quality advisory was put in place earlier today.
