As the last long weekend of the summer begins, police are warning drivers to take it easy on the highways. And soon government will increase speeding deterrents. Starting September 20, if a driver is caught going more than 40 kilometres an hour over the speed limit, their vehicle will be impounded for seven days. If you're caught again, the vehicle will be taken for 30 days and 60 days for drivers who are caught for a third or more times within a two year period. BC's Solicitor General Mike de Jong says the new rules are going in because excessive speed can be a death sentence.
