A house fire in Mackenzie claimed the lives of a set of 22 month old twins. They were trapped on the second floor of their Kerry Crescent home when it went up in flames around 7:30 this morning. When police arrived at the scene, they found the distraught parents outside the home. The officer and a neighbour entered the burning home to rescue the boy and girl but smoke and flames prevented them from getting to the second floor where the children were trapped in a bedroom. They tried to access the bedroom from the rear of the home but were pushed back again. RCMP Sgt. Syd Lecky says the incident is hitting the community hard but is confident residents will be rally to support the family. Steps have already begun to establish a support fund at Mackenzie's Scotiabank to assist the family. The parents and their 3 and a half year old child survived the fire. Investigators from Prince George are assisting in the search for a cause to the blaze.
