The uncle of the mother who lost her twins in yesterday's tragic fire in Mackenzie, says the support of the community means a lot. Barry Baxter says the family and the community are banding together, to help the family who lost everything, and are now starting over. 22-month-old twins Joseph and Gabrielle Fleury were killed in a house fire yesterday morning. The parents, along with a neighbour and rescue crews fought to gain access to the second floor where the twins were sleeping, but the fire was too aggressive. Baxter says the important thing for the family now is to be strong for their 3-year-old daughter Katelin, and concentrate on the positives. He says this is challenging under the circumstances, and he wants to be sure the family can be confident knowing they won't be destitute. The coroner is currently investigating the fire, along with police and fire officials, to determine the cause. Acting Regional Coroner Donita Kuzma says they will be performing an autopsy, and expects the results as early as Friday afternoon. Local fire officials say, in the wake of tragedies like this, parents are reminded of the importance of fire safety in their homes. Chief Fire Prevention Officer Dennis Perrault says it's important to make sure families have a fire plan that is reviewed regularly. Part of this plan is to have smoke alarms that are checked every month. A trust fund has been set up to help the family, and donations can be made through any Scotiabank to account 007600210781.
