The bad air quality is now affecting the local sports scene. Two different sports have decided to not go through with their schedules. The BMX Supertrak's received a notice from public health not to hold their regular Thursday evening, and they have obliged. The women's soccer playoffs have been postponed tonight and tomorrow because of the smoke.

The Rona Red Sox downed the defending champion Barry Yip /Remax Shooters Gladiators 7-3 in game one of the best of five Prince George Senior Men's playoff final last night at Citizen Field . Game two goes tomorrow night at 6:30 with game three next Tuesday night . Games four and five if necessary, will be played next Thursday and Friday .

Vancouver Canucks defenceman and former Cougar Dan Hamhuis will be in Prince George this weekend, participating in the inaugural Northern Capital Athletic Association fund raising golf tournament at Aberdeen Glen.  The event will raise money for athletics in the north and every golfer that enters will get a chance to bid on playing your round with Hamhuis.

The Rona Red Sox advance to the Prince George Senior Men's Baseball final ,with a 5-4 win over the Inland Control & Services Tigers last night .The Red Sox wrapped up that best of three second round series 2 games to 1 . Game one of the championship final between the Red Sox and Barry Yip Remax Shooters Gladiators goes tomorrow night at 6:30 at Citizen Field.

Lots of racing this weekend in Prince George. There was two-wheeled racing with the BMX nationals at Carry Jane Grey Park.

It was a special weekend out at PGARA where they celebrated 25 years of racing at the track. A number of people gathered for the celebration. Some people even camped out at the site for the weekend. Of course when the green flag dropped it was a very exciting two days of racing. The highlight was the Street Stock invitational.

Hockey season is just around the corner, so young players are improving their skills with a couple of hockey camps in town.

This is week two of the three weeks of Spruce Kings hockey schools. 150 kids have signed up. Skating, and puck handling drills are the norm. One time Spruce King Ryan Howse who now plays for Chilliwack is also helping out. He's getting for his second tryout camp with the Calgary Flames, but is always happy to give back to the Spruce Kings.

Senior men's baseball action saw the Barry Yip Remax Shooters Gladiators advancing to the final. They swept this year's regular season league champs the District Clothing/TQ Insulator Titans. Last night's result was 9-2. The Glads have a chance to repeat. They will face either the Rona Red Sox or the Inland Control and Services Tigers. The Sox forced a final game in their best of three series, knocking off the Tigers last night 8-1. The deciding game goes Monday.

The Spruce Kings have will play three pre-season games against three teams in three different leagues. August 31 the Kings will start their preseason hosting the Quesnel Millionaires. The following night the two teams will meet up again for a neutral site game in 100 Mile House. Then its up to the Encana Events Centre in Dawson Creek to play the Grande Prairie Storm of the AJHL September 3. Also in Dawson Creek the Kings will take on the first year Dawson Creek Rage of the North American Hockey League September 4. The Rage will then head to Prince George for the final Spruce Kings preseason game September 7.

The Barry Yip Remax Shooters Gladiators also took their series in two straight with a 7-3 win over the Predators . Playoff action tonight has the 1and 0 Inland Control and Service Tigers up against the IDL Midget Knights at 6:15 at Citizen Field.

The Cougars lost and added a goaltender today. The Cats acquired 20-year old Morgan Clark from the Swift Current Broncos. In exchange, the Broncos get a 2011 Bantam Draft conditional pick. Clark has played a total of 142 regular season games in the WHL for Red Deer and Swift Current. Last year Clark was 24-14-1-2 in 46 games while posting a 2.92 goals against average and a save percentage of .907. The 6'1", 162 pound product of Flower Mound, Texas, was a seventh round pick of the Vancouver Canucks in the 2008, but never signed. The Cougars also announced 19-year old goaltender Hudson Stremmel has decided to remain in Reno, Nevada to focus on his education.
